How To Curve Text In Illustrator In 2019

Before learning how to curve text in Illustrator in 2019, first, understand some of the basics of the illustrator. Follow the steps below to start drawing!

Setting Up

You can draw anything of your choice, I’ll be drawing strawberry! We will use a background image to trace over.

 

 

Since I’m tracing a strawberry, I’ll open this in my illustrator. Add Stroke, Artboards, color and Pathfinder in your panel list. Add these from Window option in the top left.

Start Drawing

Now we ‘re ready to draw. We’ll use the Pen Tool to create a path. You can activate a path any time by simply hitting “p” on your keyboard or clicking on the pen icon.

 

 

Curve Text In Illustrator 2019

Creating text on illustrator, doesn’t include any rocket science. If you use the Type tool, the text will stay along the baseline, and with vertical type, it’ll be perpendicular. It doesn’t matter which tool you use, you can easily create a text that curves along a path.

Placing Text on a Curved Path

1. First of all, select style. In most of the cases, you’d want the text to follow along the path. Select Type On A Path Tool.
2. Select a Path: Now click the path you want the text to follow. Type your text and click on the Selection tool to tweak further.
3. To make adjustments, you can extend paths and move anchor points. In the case of working with a closed path, you can expand or contract the entire shape.

Flip text

To flip your text:

1. Click on the text you’d like to move.
2. Click on the center bracket and drag it along the path. Make sure your text is following the bracket while staying center. Hold down Ctrl to prevent text from filliping to other side.
3. The center bracket points towards the direction where your text will be. To flip it, just drag the bracket to the other side.

Text Spacing

To change the spacing between your text:

1. Open the path options window by clicking on Type, and then select a Path.

2. Adjust the spacing by entering a new spacing value and see how it affects your text.

Applying Effects

1. Select the text and then choose Type On a path from the Type menu tab. Remember, Path type effects are not for changing the direction and width of characters. It only adjusts the direction and width of the characters.
2. Now choose an effect from Rainbow, Skew, 3D Ribbon, Stair Step, and Gravity.

• Rainbow: To Curve text perfectly around a path.
• Skew: This will jut out characters at an angle, depending on where they are on the curved path.
• 3D Ribbon: It is similar to Rainbow, but a curved path’s slope will tweak the text to the same degree.
• Stair Step: On a curve, the text will be straight, but individual characters will be staggered like a stairwell.
• Gravity: It will make extremely curved paths that will make the text look like it’s falling down.

How To Create A Path In Illustrator

It’s not difficult to add text to a circle in illustrator. All you have to do is draw a circle, choose the Path text tool, click on the circle and type. The tricky part is when you have to add two different phrases.

Choose The Path Text Tool

Draw a circle using the ellipse tool by holding down the shift.Then choose the Type On A Path Tool on the text tool pop down.

 

 

Position The Cursor

Now open the type panel and select paragraph. Follow the sequence : Window>Type> Paragraph). Click the Align Center button to set the justification to center.

Then click on the top center of the circle. An input cursor will appear at the top of the circle. Now the text will be aligned center as you type it!

 

 

Add text

Now enter the text by clicking the Character tab. Choose a font and size of your choice and enter text for circle top. This text will run along the top of the circle

 

 

Copy The Circle

Navigate to Direction Selection tool, then click on the circle and copy it on the clipboard.

In order to paste the object in front of the existing object, select Edit>copy in front to paste the copy directly in front of the older one.

 

 

Flip Text

Before flipping text, open the layers panel. Then, turn off the visibility of the bottom layer.

Select Type>Type On a Path> Type on a Path Options. By doing this, you’ll open the Path Options dialog box.

Choose Rainbow for the Effect, and then choose Ascender to Align path.

Now check the Flip box, and don’t forget to check the preview — how it looks. After adjusting the spacing, click OK.

 

 

Rotate the Text

Deselect the text by clicking away and choose Selection Tool. You’ll see three different handles; one at the top and two at the bottom. The two handles at the bottom you have to use. They’ll rotate the object, instead of moving the text. When you’re done, turn on the visibility of the hidden layer.
