Dangerous fire engulfs several Surf City homes
A fire broke out today at Atkinson Road near South Shore Drive in Surf City. Surf City Fire Chief Allen Wilson confirms that crews from Topsail Fire and Pender Country were all working on the scene. During the fire, Surf city police advised the people of that area to stay away from the impacted area. While the emergency responders kept on with their work.
It is still not certain how many structures are involved or if anyone has been injured.
However, some photos coming from viewers show multiple buildings engulfed in flames.
According to the fire officials, they got a call around at 6 p.m. about a structure fire covering three homes on Atkinson Road off of South Shore Drive in Surf City.
Video shot by a viewer shows the massive blaze. The homes, several stories high, burning to the ground.
Officials have been working on the scene since 7 p.m. and they may have to be there through the night and into Monday.
They have stopped the progression of the fire, but couldn’t prevent at least six homes from going into a total loss.
Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.
